Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Woods Design & Features

The new Launcher XL Halo have been given a number of changes for the 2024 version from the original design in 2022.

The new woods design includes an upgraded GlideRail sole technology, which ensures optimal turf interaction – particularly for shots off the deck – by incorporating large tapered rails along the sole.

The rails are meticulously crafted to glide through turf and to help maintain clubhead speed, while also promoting a square face through impact.

This design is especially beneficial in rough or challenging lies and is a key element in the forgiveness offered by the Halo XL fairways.

MainFrame XL technology is another cornerstone of the design with a variable thickness face pattern to enlarge and reshape the sweet spot and enhance energy transfer across the face.

It works in conjunction with strategically placed weight pads inside the clubhead to optimize weight distribution for a long, high-launching ball flight.

Mass has been redistributed away from the club’s center and towards the perimeter to increase the moment of inertia (MOI) for greater forgiveness and consistency with every strike.

The HiBore Crown Step further lowers the center of gravity and helps produce a longer and straighter ball flight, while the deeper faces expand the forgiving striking area.

The XL woods are available in 3-wood (15 degrees), 5-wood (18 degrees), 7-wood (21 degrees) and the new 9-wood (24 degrees) but are non adjustable.

Cleveland Launcher Halo XL Woods Review: Are they any good?

Cleveland have managed to make improvements to the first generation of the fairways woods with the latest model straighter, long and more forgiving.

The new Rebound Frame produced more ball speed in testing, the MainFrame XL technology and enhanced sweet spot really impressed and the new Gliderail gave a much squarer clubface.

Everything about these fairway woods has added gains and the end result will be something handicap golfers love. The only negative we could find was the lack of adjustability, although the addition of a 9-wood helps counter that a little.

What Cleveland says about the Launcher Halo XL Fairway Woods:

“All-new HALO XL Fairway Woods feature upgraded GlideRail sole technology for optimal turf interaction on shots off the deck.

“Plus, with MainFrame XL, low Centers of Gravity, and Rebound Frame, HALO XL Fairway Woods are everything you need to ditch the duffs and launch your long game to a new level.

“With more loft offerings than ever before, plus our latest and greatest forgiveness tech, we’ve created Fairway Woods that’ll save you from those long-game blues.

“Large, tapered rails along the sole of each HALO XL Fairway Wood deliver optimal ball striking and clean turf interaction.

“Each rail is designed to gently glide straight through the turf so you can maintain clubhead speed and keep a square face through impact. Plus, they’re super helpful from the rough or any tough lie.

“Every HALO XL Fairway Wood delivers max distance with added forgiveness, thanks to MainFrame XL. MainFrame XL uses a variable thickness face pattern that expands and reshapes the sweet spot for more energy transfer across the face.

These reworked XL Head Designs allow us to shift more mass away from the club’s center. This ups the MOI, delivering more forgiveness and consistency on every strike.

“They also feature our HiBore Crown Step, which brings the Center of Gravity even lower in the clubhead for longer, straighter ball flight. Plus, deeper faces create a larger, more forgiving striking area.

“Like a spring within a spring, Rebound Frame adds another ring of flexibility that sits just behind the face, supported by extra stiffness in the rear of the clubhead. At impact, these dual flex zones activate simultaneously, increasing the amount of energy transferred into the ball.”
