PXG 0311 GEN6 Irons Review (MOST Accurate Irons for 2023)

PXG 0311 GEN6 Irons

PXG 0311 GEN6 irons are new for 2023 with two new and improved models – the XP & P – in the sixth generation, which is described as the most accurate yet.

PXG have opted to just release the XP (Xtreme Performance) and P (Players) models in the new irons, which are joined by GEN6 drivers, fairway woods and hybrids.

Gone is the T (Tour) model as PXG focus on perfecting the P for low-to-mid handicappers and the XP for mid-to-high handicapper due to the increased forgiveness.

What PXG says about the 0311 GEN6 Irons:

“Since their inception, PXG irons have maintained the thinnest face in golf, and with GEN6 the face is now even thinner.

“Combined with PXG’s proprietary XCOR2 Technology, GEN6 Irons deliver the company’s highest C.O.R. performance ever, helping increase distance and forgiveness while also enhancing sound and feel.

“XCOR2 is PXG’s revolutionary polymer core material, the result of years of research and development. Extremely lightweight, XCOR2 helps reduce the mass of the core which enables more weight to be positioned low and to the perimeter of the backside of the clubhead, dramatically increasing MOI.

“Combined with PXG’s variable ultra-thin face technology, XCOR2 enhances the C.O.R. for extreme face deflection and out-of-sight ball speed.

“Power Channel Technology is the proprietary U-shaped corridor built into the internal surface of the face to increase deflection and bend in the top sector.

“The channel creates face movement and transfers energy to simultaneously increases launch angle, trajectory, and ball speed.”

NEW FOR 2023: Review of PXG’s Xtreme Balls

PXG 0311 GEN6 XP Irons Specs & Design

The PXG 0311 XP irons are back in the GEN6 range and the most forgiving of the two options in the 2023 series.

Known as the Xtreme Performance irons, they are aimed at mid-to-high handicap golfers with improved forgiveness levels in the latest release thanks to a larger size head with more offset.

They also have a thicker top rail on the five-times forged club head compared to the P irons and feature a greater number of lofts through the bag for more options out on the course.

PXG 0311 GEN6 XP Irons

The XP irons feature the key XCOR2 Technology, which is a revolutionary polymer core material to keep the weight down, positioned low and to the perimeter and to increase the MOI and forgiveness.

PXG have managed to make the face of the GEN6 irons even thinner than before with the new variable ultra-thin face technology delivering impressive ball speeds and consistency.

PXG have retained the Power Channel Technology, which is a U-shaped corridor built behind the face to increase flex and improve the launch angle, trajectory, and ball speeds.

The XP irons are available from 4-iron (18 degrees) through to lob wedge (60 degrees). Both sand wedge and lob wedge are new compared to the GEN5 version.

PXG 0311 GEN6 P Irons Specs & Design

The P irons, known as the Players model, is back again and is the elite performer in the series with PXG opting not to introduce a Tour iron in the GEN6.

This is the all-round performer of the two options in the latest range, targetted specifically at low-to-mid handicap golfers looking for a balanced set up, distance and forgiveness in equal measure.

The club head of the P irons is slightly smaller than the XP, has a thinner topline and the lofts are weaker for a high trajectory and optimal ball flight.

Once again featuring a five-times forged club head, PXG have made the face on this model their thinnest yet.

The key features are the improved XCOR2 Technology, which reduces the mass of the core and means weight has been positioned low and back, and Precision Weighting Technology.

The 0311 P irons, which also feature the Power Channel Technology for increased face flex, are available from 4-iron (20.5 degrees) to gap wedge (49 degrees).

Verdict: Are PXG 0311 GEN6 Irons any good?

While the changes made to the sixth generation irons are minor rather than major, PXG have still managed to extract more distance, ball speed and forgiveness.

They have made the 0311 GEN6 irons even lighter with the XCOR2 internal design and a thinner face helping to contribute to that and help increase accuracy without sacrificing speed.

Interestingly, the Tour model is not part of the series with PXG opting to hone the performance of the P and XP irons. They’ve done a good job too as these are the best yet.
