TaylorMade Spider GTX Putter Review (NEW Model for 2023)

TaylorMade Spider GTX Putter

The TaylorMade Spider GTX putter is the latest model to roll off the production line as the most advanced and stable produced by the manufacturer.

The Spider series has proven to be extremely popular with the GTX following on from top performers such as the Spider, Spider S, Spider X, Spider Mini, Spider EX and Spider GT ranges.

The new GTX model builds on the design of the Spider Tour and Spider X putters, but is more stable thanks to a high-MOI construction at over 5300 – the most TaylorMade have ever achieved.

In this article we take a look at the design tweaks, how TaylorMade have increased the MOI and forgiveness and discuss the performance benefits on the greens.

TaylorMade Spider GTX Specs & Design

The GTX putter is largely designed on the Spider Tour and Spider X models, but TaylorMade have worked on significantly changes to make the new 2023 version the most stable yet.

They have achieved the highest MOI of any TaylorMade putter – 5300 – by adding a 154g stability bar at the rear of the putter head

That bar, which makes up 45% of the putter’s total weight, has also allowed the center of gravity to be moved lower to create more forgiveness and add even more stability to this Spider model.

The Spider GTX is extremely balanced and is resistant to twisting at impact with the two wing weights also adding to the stability this mallet offers.

The putter features TaylorMade’s PureRoll² technology in the face with the TPU urethane insert combined with aluminium beams to produce consistent ball strikes and roll.

The GTX is available in four hosel types – L-Neck, Short Slant, Single Bend and Centre Shaft – to suit the requirements of all types of golfers.

Sold in white, silver, black, red, ice blue and pink colour putter heads as standard, the GTX can be produced in up to 13 options via the MySpider option.

The alignment aid, known as True Path technology, is also adaptable. It can be added in five options: short line, single line, single dot, triple dot or without True Path Alignment.

Verdict: Is the TaylorMade Spider GTX putter any good?

The Spider range has always been impressive, with the unique design really helping golfers keep the putter head square at impact and likely to hole more putts.

Can any more benefits have been found? Yes is the answer because this is the most forgiving yet with the MOI not at a previously unachievable number.

The Spider at 5300 has surged past Odyssey’s 5k Tri Hot putters in terms of MOI and this is as stable a putter as you are likely to find. Expect to find the bottom of the cup even more with the GTX.
