The event was first held in 1952 and has been a regular on the PGA Tour ever since Ted Kroll won the inaugural edition of the tournament.

The Travelers Championship is played at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

Harris English is the defending champion having won the event in 2021.

The event has previously been known as the Insurance City Open, Insurance City Open Invitational, Greater Hartford Open Invitational, Sammy Davis Jr.–Greater Hartford Open, Canon Greater Hartford Open, Buick Championship and since 2007 the Travelers Championship.

The Travelers Championship will be played over four rounds / 72 holes at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, with a cut after the opening two rounds.
