Honma have taken an already impressive performer in the shape of their premium TW W4 wedges and given them a performance-enhancing makeover.

The first change made had been to increase the size of the clubhead to provide a larger sweet spot and add to the forgiveness levels offered by the new release.

That move is significant as it has opened up the Honma W5 to a bigger pool of golfers as it now lends itself to mid-handicappers and not just those at the elite end of the spectrum.

The face design of the W5 wedges has also changed to include double milled as well as a “Bite Rib Line”, the combination of which is improved spin and control around the greens.

The unique milled pattern in joined by what Honma call “protrusion-shaped rib between the score lines” and the spin generated is up there with the best models on the market.

The W5 feature three sole grinds with the I-Sole having slight trailing edge relief for full sole performance, the C-Sole having toe trailing relief and being the most versatile and the S-Sole being a wide sole design.

Honma have opted to utilise the trio of sole grind options across all lofts in the W5, giving you more setup options from 48 degrees to 60 degrees.

Honma TW W5 Wedges Review: Are they any good?

There’s a lot to like about what Honma have done in altering the design of this latest model of their premium wedges range.

The larger clubhead is much more forgiving that the previous W4 model and makes the appeal of the W5 far greater as a result, making an option for a much bigger pool of golfers.

The spin levels are seriously good thanks to the new milled face that has a clever design to enhance the spin and stop capabilities from the new wedges.
