Despite being a country with a lot of winter sports, Sweden also has a great reputation for golf tourism and has a rich history of success in the sport too.

As a northern Nordic country, there is plenty of daylight in the summertime and the golf season runs from May to October.

The winters are harsh in Sweden, however, there are some pockets with mild temperatures and a little bit of extra length to the season. Expect a huge annual range of temperatures in this country.

Nils Sköld, Peter Nordwall, Adam Mednick and Pierre Fulke are the architects who have worked on this island course. The latter pair performed a fairly recent rebuild in 2009.

Golfers should expect heavy winds coming off of the nearby Baltic. However, not all of the holes are seaside and this course actually also offers parkland-style holes.

It is top-ranked in the best golf courses in Sweden, according to Svensk Golf (the country’s national authority). and Golf Digest recently ranked it third in the entire Nordic region.

Located in Helsingborg, Sweden, the par-72 Tournament Course at the Vasatorp Golf Club was built in 2008.

Arthur Hills was the architect along with the firm of Steve Forrest & Associates. At a total length of 6,963 yards, the Tournament Course offers golfers moderate length.

This is a course that has received some recent accolades. For instance, Svensk Golf ranked it 11th in Sweden in its 2020 publication and the World Golf Awards ranked it top in the country in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Not surprisingly, this venue has hosted significant tournaments including as the host of the 2021 European Amateur Team Championship.

Bro Hof Slott Golf Club (Stadium Course)

The Stadium Course at the Bro Hof Slott Golf Club is in the greater Stockholm area of Sweden and one of the countries best.

It opened in 2007, Robert Trent Jones Jr was the designer, and it is a par-72 course at a total length of 7,946 yards.

This parkland-styled course has plenty of water hazards. Malaren Lake, a major lake in the country, borders many of the holes.

You can also expect wide fairways, bunkers and five different tees at this lakeside course that has hosted the Nordea Masters on the European Tour several times.

Vallda Golf & Country Club

Located in Vallda, Sweden, the golf course at the Vallda Golf & Country Club is a par-72 venue at a total length of 7,098 yards.

Martin Hawtree and Caspar Grauballe designed this course in the latter years of the first decade of this century.

The private course has a golf season from April 1st to September 30th and you will be treated to Oak forest outlining this esteemed course, one that was originally conceptualized as a Scottish Heathland course.

The club, which is a 30km drive from Gothenburg, has hosted a range of recent major events.

The Stora Course is located at Frosakers Golf & Country Club near Vasteras, Sweden, west of Stockholm and was built in the early 1990s.

It plays as a par-72 test at a decent total length of 7,291 yards with Sune Linde designing a length course, one that is also located in the Malaren Lake area.

Golfers should expect open terrain, water hazards, a vibrant green tone in the summertime as well as forested sections.
