The event has been a part PGA Tour since first debuting in 2003 with Rory McIlroy the defending champion having won the title for the third time in 2021.

The Wells Fargo Championship was first held in 2003 when known as the Wachovia Championship. It became the Quail Hollow Championship for two years in 2009 and 2010 before taking on its current name.

Former winners of the Wells Fargo include inaugural champion David Toms, Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, Rickie Fowler, JB Holmes and Jason Day.

The Wells Fargo Championship will be played over four rounds / 72 holes at the par-70 TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm with a cut after the opening two rounds.

• Day 1 – Thursday, May 5
• Day 2 – Friday, May 6
• Day 3 – Saturday, May 7
• Day 4 – Sunday, May 8

The tournament carries a total prize fund of $9,000,000 USD.
