The Garmin Approach G20 Solar is a ground-breaking launch as the first solar-powered GPS golf handheld device to hit the market.
Launched in January 2025, the innovative new G20 device provides golfers with extended playtime by offering unlimited battery life in sunny conditions.
No GPS device has previously included solar charging among the features, but the G20 breaks ground and provides unlimited power supply – particularly through the summer months.
As well as boasting a range of features and enhancements from previous versions of the GPS, the new G20 comes with the promise of unlimited battery life in ideal sunny conditions or lasting up to 36 rounds without solar charging.
Garmin Approach G20 Solar GPS Features & Design
The Garmin Approach G20 is the first solar-powered GPS device and provides unlimited battery life and removes the requirement for consistent charging.
The new G20 offers unlimited battery life in ideal sunny conditions of 75,000 lux, but can also last up to 36 rounds without solar charging if you happen to play in less optimal conditions.

The device has a solar-powered display that harnesses sunlight to charge the battery continuously during use, and that can be monitored by selecting the Solar option to view a graph showing solar intensity over the past six hours.
The G20 Solar comes preloaded with over 43,000 courses worldwide and provides yardages to the front, middle, and back of greens as well as hazards and doglegs.
The Green View feature also allows golfers to see the shape of the green and add manual pin placements for more adaptability than ever before.

The device boats a High-Contrast Screen with a 2.2-inch sunlight-readable display and large, easy-to-read numbers that makes making club selection a simply process.
The GPS can also be paired with the Garmin Golf app to access additional features like wind speed and direction in non-competition mode.
The G20 is rated IPX7 for water resistance, making it suitable for all weather conditions – including continuing to work should heavy rains fall during your round.

Other features including being compatible with Approach CT10 club tracking tags for automatic shot tracking, a digital scorecard and a magnetic strip to attach to a golf cart or clipped to a belt.
Garmin Approach G20 Solar GPS Review: Is it any good?
Forget the charging of your GPS or replacing the batteries because Garmin have come up with the solution and it was as simple as solar.
While we have adopted solar in everyday life, this GPS now benefits from it to give you unlimited battery life in perfect conditions or up to 36 rounds with the benefit of the sun.

The solar charging feature allows golfers to play extra rounds or store the device in their golf bag without worrying about recharging before the next use.
It isn’t just about the exceptional charging capabilities though because Garmin have added additional features compared to previous models like the G10, G30 or G80.
