Open de Espana 2026: Who Are The Leading Betting Odds Favourites?

Ludvig Aberg

The 2026 Open de Espana presented by Madrid takes place at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid from October 8-11 with huge names teeing it up on the DP World Tour.

Ludvig Aberg heads the supplied betting market ahead of Shane Lowry, David Puig, Eugenio Chacarra, Patrick Reed and defending champion Marco Penge.

The par‑71 course measures 7,154 yards and features tree-lined fairways that place a premium on positioning and accurate approach play.

Last year, Penge and Daniel Brown finished level at 15-under before Penge secured the title in a play-off in Spain.

Jon Rahm’s withdrawal ahead of the tournament has strengthened Aberg’s position at the top of the betting. However, the home challenge remains strong, with Puig and Madrid native Chacarra among the leading contenders.

Leading Open de Espana Contenders

Ludvig Aberg

Ludvig Aberg is the clear favourite with the Swedish Ryder Cup star arriving as one of the highest-ranked names in a field featuring seven of the world’s top 50.

Club de Campo’s emphasis on accurate driving makes positioning an important part of his challenge.

If Aberg creates favourable approach angles without taking unnecessary risks through the tree-lined corridors, he should have opportunities to justify his place at the head of the market.

Shane Lowry

Shane Lowry brings major-winning experience to Madrid. His appearance adds further strength to a field already featuring several European Ryder Cup players.

Lowry’s touch around the greens could be particularly useful if the course plays firm and makes recovery shots more demanding.

His route to contention will be combining that short-game quality with enough accurate approaches to keep pace with the field’s more aggressive scorers.

David Puig

David Puig offers a compelling home challenge. He finished third at Club de Campo in 2024 and ninth last year, giving him encouraging recent form at the venue.

The Spaniard’s power and attacking instincts provide the potential for runs of birdies, but his course record is the stronger reason to take his chances seriously.

If he builds on those previous performances and handles the home attention positively, he could be a significant contender through Sunday.

Eugenio Chacarra

Eugenio Chacarra returns to his home city following a third-place finish at the Open de France. His strong Race to Dubai campaign has made him a prominent selection in several betting previews.

Chacarra’s attacking style gives him clear scoring potential, although Club de Campo will require him to balance aggression with accurate placement.

His recent form and the opportunity to contend for his national championship make him one of the most interesting alternatives to Aberg.

Patrick Reed

Patrick Reed is the Race to Dubai leader and returns from injury. He also has useful recent course experience, finishing tenth at Club de Campo in 2024 and 16th in 2025.

Those results suggest Reed can handle the venue, even if he has yet to turn that familiarity into a title challenge.

He opens alongside Lowry and Chacarra, placing three of the featured contenders in the same group for the first two rounds.

Marco Penge

Marco Penge rounds out the highlighted group and returns as defending champion. He won the 2025 edition with a birdie on the first play-off hole against Daniel Brown after both players finished at 15-under.

Penge’s opening rounds of 66, 67 and 64 last year demonstrated his ability to score at Club de Campo.

That winning experience gives him a clear reason for confidence, and another fast start would put him in position to mount a serious title defence.
