PXG 0311 Black Ops Woods Review (NEW Fairways For 2024)

PXG 0311 Black Ops Woods Review

PXG 0311 Black Ops woods are new for 2024 with the fairways the most advanced and easy-to-launch yet. What have PXG achieved in the design?

Released along with Black Ops drivers and hybrids, the fairway woods have been refined compared to the previous 0311 model with a new face and sole design among the changes.

A more compact clubhead, larger and more square face and flat sole have allowed PXG’s designers to move weight to the perimeter, add forgiveness and increase ball speeds.

The combination of technologies has delivered more accurate fairways with stunning distance gains and we were very impressed with the latest generation of PXG woods.

PXG 0311 Black Ops Fairway Woods Specs & Design

The Black Ops fairway woods have an array of upgrades and features incorporated into the latest generation, which offer an unparalleled combination of distance, forgiveness and feel.

They have a proprietary stainless-steel face that is notably thinner – by 12.5% – than previous models. A high-strength carbon fiber crown works in harmony and produces efficient energy transfer across the clubface.

The thin face design is instrumental in lowering the center of gravity (CG), which produces a higher launch angle, optimal spin rates and leads to incredibly fast ball speeds.

The woods are innovative in design with a low-profile shaping that incorporates a flat sole and squared face to aid in ease of launch regardless of the lie.

The combination enhances versatility on the course and helps deliver maximum distance with a tight dispersion, whether teeing off or playing from the turf.

Precision Weighting Technology, positioned at the clubhead’s perimeter, and a unique supported weight structure further refine the club’s stability, vibration and sound qualities.

They are available in 3-wood (15 degrees), 4-wood (17 degrees), 5-wood (18 degrees) and 7-wood (21 degrees) options with a fully adjustable hosel.

PXG 0311 Black Ops Woods Review: Are they any good?

PXG have managed to find improvements in the new Black Ops range and the fairway woods are a seriously impressive new addition to the market.

More forgiving than the previous version of the 0311 fairways, these woods are more accurate than any previous model and it is all down to the new weighting structure.

What we really like about this 2024 newcomer is the larger face profile that inspires a lot of confidence standing over the ball. It really does make finding the center of the face a whole lot easier.

Slightly more expensive than some of the other new 2024 fairway woods, the cost is the only negative with everything about performance spot on.

What PXG says about the Black Ops fairway woods:

“New PXG 0311 Black Ops Fairway Woods feature an innovative, low-profile with a flat sole and squared face design ideal for golfers of every playing ability.

“Offering PXG’s most versatile fitting technology, these easy to launch fairways provide maximum distance and tight dispersion off the tee or turf coupled with an incredible sound and feel.

“PXG 0311 Black Ops Fairways present a proprietary stainless-steel face that is 12.5% thinner than previous generations and engineered to position the CG low for high launch, optimal spin performance, and insanely fast ball speeds.

“The optimized squared face design shifts the perimeter skirt more vertical, increasing the surface area to significantly boost forgiveness of the clubhead.

“A high-strength carbon fiber crown helps to optimize the driver’s performance by ensuring consistent and efficient energy transfer across various impact points on the clubface. The result is increased ball speed and improved distance.

“Through rigorous modal analysis testing, PXG designed an innovative supported weight structure that delivers unbelievable sound and feel.

“With Precision Weighting Technology positioned in the extreme perimeter of the clubhead and anchored to the outer wall, a sophisticated stiff and stable structure that generates high frequency vibrations is created.

“Using modal analysis to study the vibrations, PXG determined that this geometry produces an optimal feel and sound at impact.

“Robotic polishing is a high-precision process that ensures the face thickness and the face curvature (the bulge and roll radii) are manufactured to design specs that maximize performance and impart corrective spin for ideal ball flight on off-center shots.”
