South African Sterne’s last tour win came back in early 2013, but he ended the wait for another title by winning the 2026 Soudal Open in Belgium.
Sterne shot four rounds in the 60s to finish on 18-under par, two clear of Marcus Armitage, Jorge Campillo, Kota Kaneko, Marcus Kinhult, Jacob Skov Olesen and Victor Perez in a bunched field.
Sterne now has seven DP World Tour wins on his CV after previous titles in the 2004 Open de Madrid, 2007 Celtic Manor Wales Open, 2008 and 2013 Joburg Open, 2008 Alfred Dunhill Championship and 2008 South African Open Championship.
Four of those were on home soil in South Africa and doubled up as Sunshine Tour wins to make it six titles along with the 2005 Nashua Masters and 2007 Vodacom Championship.
Sterne played in the International team at the 2013 Presidents Cup.
