Takomo 201T MKII Irons Are Value Compact Muscle-Backs (Reviewed)

Takomo 201T MKII Irons Review

Takomo Golf have added a new model to the second generation of their irons series with the launch of the compact muscle back 201T MKII.

One of three new models in the second generation MKII series series, the 201T irons are joined by the 101 MKII and 201 MKII.

The 201T MKII is a compact muscle-back design introduced for low-handicap golfers to be able to play Takomo’s value-for-money blades.

A sleek muscle back blade is built with premium looks, variable face thickness and enhanced forgiveness for complete performance at a fraction of the cost of bigger name brands.

Pros & Cons

✅ Stunning brushed, minimalist look with a compact, players-style profile and minimal offset that will appeal to better ball-strikers at address
✅ Hollow-body construction with variable-thickness 17‑4 steel face delivers ball speeds on par with established players’ distance models like TaylorMade P770 at the same lofts
✅ Split weighting (tungsten in the long irons, steel in the short irons) helps long irons launch easier while keeping short irons more precise and controllable
✅ Lively yet soft impact feel, described as powerful without being harsh or clicky, which is impressive for a hollow design
✅ Excellent value for money as a direct-to-consumer product, making it hard to justify paying roughly double for similar performance from major OEMs
❌ Spin rates are a bit more inconsistent, reducing stopping power versus some competitors on firm greens.
❌ Forgiveness is solid for the category but still aimed at better players
❌ Mishits will be more noticeable than in larger, more offset game‑improvement heads
❌ Direct‑to‑consumer model limits in‑person custom fitting

Takomo 201T MKII Irons Specs & Design

Targeted at better players and low-handicappers, the 201T MKII is a new addition to the Takomo armoury for 2026.

This new model offers a compact muscle-back profile with subtle cavity aid and is a tour-level performer in every sense with shot-shaping and precision what it is all about.

The 201T MKII has the same hollow-body iron construction as the 201 but has been tuned for distance and workability with minimal forgiveness compared to the other two models.

It is crafted from a durable 17-4 cast body with tungsten bar weighting in the 4-iron to 7-iron, while the short irons all have varying center of gravity placement thanks to steel weighting.

The variable thickness face is made of 17-4 steel and is designed to provide maximum distance and ball speed as well as mishit stability on off-center strikes.

The smaller, more compact clubhead is coupled with refined sole to aid shot shaping and workability from the fairways.

The 201T irons are available in 5-iron (23 degrees) to gap wedge (47 degrees).

Takomo 201T MKII Irons Review: Are they any good?

The Takomo 201T MKII is a standout new addition to the players’ distance iron mark for 2026, marrying premium looks, impressive speed and solid forgiveness at a notably aggressive price point.

The main trade‑offs are slightly low and variable spin plus category‑typical forgiveness, so it rewards confident ball‑strikers more than it rescues frequent mishits.

As a value‑driven option for better golfers who like Takomo’s minimalist aesthetic and do not need maximum spin or game‑improvement levels of help, it is safe to say this is among the best players’ distance DTC irons.
