What TaylorMade say about the Spider EX putter:

“When we first introduced the original Spider putter in 2008, we never could have anticipated the global phenomenon it has become.

“With widespread adoption on tours around the world, not only has it become one of the company’s top-selling putters of all time, it has truly shifted the paradigm of putter design toward high-MOI mallets.

“The new Spider EX, designed for easy aim, better feel and enhanced stability.

“When you combine the Fluted Feel shaft with the all-new Pure Roll2 insert and True Path with three dot alignment, the result is confidence you can feel.”

TaylorMade Spider EX Putters Review

TaylorMade have taken the Spider X, the most popular and successful model in the range, and improved on it further with the launch of the EX.

The EX putter features the second generation of the insert in the face, which is known as Pure Roll2 in the 2021 release. The new version features eight co-molded grooves for increased topspin and better roll.

TaylorMade have also made a tweak to the alignment in the EX with three dots at the putter head and two sightlines replacing the original one the long alignment line from previous models.

Tweaks have also been made to the design of the putter head from the Spider X. The lines have been rounded for a more pleasing look, particularly at the rear.

The alterations mean the Spider EX is slightly larger than its predecessor by 3.5mm heel to toe and 2.7mm front to back. Marginal, but bigger all the same.

The CG has been moved deeper thanks to a multi material construction, resulting in better distance control from the latest model.

The EX model features a short slant hosel which is a 28-degree toe hung setup. It is available in ghost white, navy and platinum colour options.

TaylorMade Spider EX Flow Neck Putters Review

The Spider EX Flow Neck putter features all the same tweaks and changes as the EX (see above).

Featuring the new Pure Roll2 insert and the three dot alignment that has been a key change, the new Flow Neck is a step up on the Spider X.

The head is also slightly larger and the new multi material construction has allowed for the CG to be moved deeper for improve distance control.

In the Flow Neck hosel version, which is also available in ghost white, platinum and navy colour options, the Spider EX is toe hung to 20 degrees.

TaylorMade Spider EX Single Bend Putters Review

The Single Bend model of the Spider EX is the third hosel option and this option is a face balanced putter.

Really suited to golfers with a straight back and through putting strike, as opposed to an arced or slight arc strike, the Single Bend is an extremely forgiving version.

The design elements of this putter are the same as the standard EX and Flow Back models.

You get the Pure Roll2 insert, the new alignment structure and a lower CG for better distance control that in any previous Spider putter.

Again, the putter head is slightly larger than the Spider X and it is sold in ghost white, navy and platinum options.

TaylorMade Spider EX Putters Verdict

The changes made from the Spider X to the Spider EX range are relatively marginal, but they undoubtedly work.

The new Pure Roll2 is a step up, moving the CG helps consistency on those longer putts and the alignment line is that little bit better suited to a mallet head of this size.

The three hosel options really make this an impressive new release for 2021. In the bag of the world’s best already, it is easy to see why.
