The event is the second of the FedEx Cup series and the penultimate tournament of the 2023 PGA Tour season.

The BMW Championship is being played on the North Course at Olympia Fields Country Club for the second time this year after previously being staged in 2020.

The tournament as we know it was first staged in 2007 and has been staged at Cog Hill, Bellerive, Crooked Stick, Conway Farms, Cherry Hills, Aronimink, Medinah, Caves Valley and Wilmington Country Club.

Prior to becoming the BMW Championship, the tournament was known as the Western Open and dates back to 1899. That makes it the longest running tournament.

Patrick Cantlay is the reigning champion having won the event in 2021 and 2022.

Other former winners of the FedEx Cup Series BMW Championship include Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm.

BMW Championship Golf Format & Schedule

The BMW Championship will be played over four rounds / 72 holes on the North Course at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois.

The top 50 players on the FedEx Cup Standings take part, meaning there is no cut after the opening two rounds.

• Day 1 – Thursday, August 17
• Day 2 – Friday, August 18
• Day 3 – Saturday, August 19
• Day 4 – Sunday, August 20

The tournament carries a total prize fund of $20,000,000 USD.
