The event is the second of the FedEx Cup series and the penultimate tournament of the current PGA Tour season.
The BMW Championship moved from the North Course at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois to Colorado with Castle Pines Golf Club staging the event in 2024.
The tournament as we know it was first staged in 2007 and has been staged at Cog Hill, Bellerive, Crooked Stick, Conway Farms, Cherry Hills, Aronimink, Medinah, Caves Valley, Wilmington Country Club and Olympia Fields.
Prior to becoming the BMW Championship, the tournament was known as the Western Open and dates back to 1899.
Viktor Hovland is the reigning champion having won the event in 2023.
Other former winners of the FedEx Cup Series BMW Championship include Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm and Patrick Cantlay.

The BMW Championship will be played over four rounds / 72 holes Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado.
The top 50 players on the FedEx Cup Standings take part, meaning there is no cut after the opening two rounds.
- Day 1 – Thursday, August 22
- Day 2 – Friday, August 23
- Day 3 – Saturday, August 24
- Day 4 – Sunday, August 25
The tournament carries a total prize fund of $20,000,000 USD.
