The new 2023 Adams IDEA driver marks the return of the popular brand after a 10-year absence. How does it perform and who are Adams targeting?

Adams Golf is a huge name in golf, but there had been no new releases for more than 10 years since the brand was bought by TaylorMade Golf.

Adams is back now with the driver part of a complete IDEA series of that also includes fairway woods, hybrids, irons and wedges with the range launched in 2023.

Adams IDEA Driver Specs & Design

The Adams driver is among the most forgiving new releases with the brand focusing in on the game-improvement sector for their return to the golf world.

Suited as a mid-handicap driver option or a good choice for higher handicappers, the new IDEA model is all about offering forgiveness off the tee to help find those fairways with greater consistency.

The IDEAs have an elegant black look and is made from a multi-material construction, including a carbon sole, that delivers impressive ball speeds and distance.

The driver features a Velocity Slot behind the face which helps increase the flex and deliver more speed from across the face.

Adams’ designers have also made the face variable thickness to maintain those speeds, particularly on the off-center strikes from the toe or heel of the club.

Adams haven’t gone overboard with the design of the IDEA driver on their comeback – instead they have focused on the end result.

While the look is pretty standard and doesn’t standout as breaking the mould, that is no bad thing. The focus with this driver has been on the forgiveness it affords golfers.

If you lack consistency in finding the center of the face, this is a driver that should be on your radar. In testing we found toe strikes had only minimal reduction in average distances.

It is a great choice for 10+ handicap looking for a driver that is incredibly forgiving, won’t break the bank and helps iron out those left to right fades and slices in particular.
