Atlanta Drive GC Shutout New York Golf Club In TGL Win

TGL

Atlanta Drive GC defeated New York Golf Club 4-0 in the third match of the new TGL, marking the first shutout in the short history of the league.

In what was Atlanta’s debut match in the TGL, the team of Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Billy Horschel claimed an impressive victory at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The crushing defeat was New York’s second consecutive loss after they lost 9-2 in the inaugural match to The Bay Golf Club on the opening night.

Atlanta fielded a line-up of Thomas, Cantlay and Horschel, while New York’s trio were Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young.

In the nine-hole Triples session, Atlanta took an early lead by winning the first hole and then extended their lead to 2-0 by winning the sixth hole.

In the six-hole singles session, Thomas defeated Young and Horschel beat Fitzpatrick to complete the debut victory for Atlanta Drive GC.

After the match, Fowler said: “We just gotta find a way to play better than the other team. We got out-played both times.

“I don’t think we played very poorly other than our first hole. We dug ourselves a small hole but I felt like we played decent from there.”

The victory earned Atlanta Drive GC two points in the league standings, while New York Golf Club remains at the bottom of the table with an 0-2 record.
