Smotherman had yet to break through at the elite level but claimed a two-shot victory over Doug Ghim in the Bank of Utah Championship.
The American finished on 26-under after four rounds of at least four-under par to win on what was his 100th PGA Tour start.
Smotherman turned professional in 2016 and won on the PGA Tour Latinoamericana in the 2018 Abierto Mexicano de Golf.
He won three times on the Korn Ferry Tour in the 2021 Simmons Bank Open and 2025 BMW Charity Pro-Am and Memorial Health Championship.
