Callaway Apex CB ‘24 irons are the latest generation of the forged cavity back model. How do they compare vs the Apex ’21?

Launched in August 2023 along with new Apex Pro, Apex MB, Apex UT and Apex UW, the CB ’24 are the upgraded version of the hugely popular Apex ’21 range of irons.

Known as simply the Apex as well as having a sister model the DCB in the 2021 range, Callaway have introduced some subtle rather than sweeping changes into the latest cavity back model.

We take a look at the changes, how they will affect the performance if the benefits of gaming the new forged CB irons.

Still a tour iron, these are a forged a cavity back crafted from 1025 carbon steel for the most satisfying of feels.

The blade length in the latest version is slightly longer than the Apex 21 range, while the topline is also thinner to bring it more inline with the Pro and MBs.

Callaway have designed the irons with MIM weights in both the toe and heel for a well balanced all-round performer that offers distance and control in equal measure.

Featuring a progressive CG throughout the set, Callaway have made it lower in the longer irons for a higher trajectory and higher in the shorter irons for greater levels of spin on approach play.

Callaway have also made changes to the sole of the club with the new Dynamic Sole Design featuring a more worn shaping to the edge of the irons.

This new feature works to prevent the irons digging into the turf on exit and produce much better turf interaction and ball striking.

The CB model is available in 3-iron (20.5 degrees) to A-Wedge (50 degrees).

Verdict: Are Callaway Apex CB ’24 Irons any good?

Callaway have made the moved to bring the cavity back tour-level irons more inline with the Pro and MB irons and the results are impressive.

This isn’t a cavity back that you might think of as hugely forgiving, but is actually a forged design that can be mixed with the other models to create the perfect bag setup.

Changes to the CG, sole design and blade head design have resulted in a more all round performer and one the elite players looking for workability will love.
