Callaway Great Big Bertha Woods Specs & Design

Newly released, the 2023 Great Big Bertha fairway woods feature a combination of materials and technologies designed to increase ball speeds and improve launch.

The key design element of this model is the Titanium construction with the new 2023 woods featuring a titanium face and body in a significant move away from

The Titanium face and body is joined by a triaxial carbon crown, which is lightweight and helps to optimise weight distribution for improved performance.

The Forged Carbon sole also helps to redistribute weight for a higher MOI (moment of inertia) and lower CG (center of gravity).

Callaway have been able to introduce 50g of internal tungsten and a 15g steel plate on the sole to create an easier, higher launch and these new fairways and 30 grams lighter than the Callaway Rogue ST Max woods.

The combined package helps to increase ball speed off the Titanium face, improve launch angle and max out the distance whether used from the tee, fairways or from rough.

Great Big Bertha woods are available in 3-wood, 5-wood, 7-wood and 9-wood. The 3-wood and 5-wood are the adjustable options of the four lofts.

Callaway Great Big Bertha Woods 2023 Review: Are they any good?

Big Bertha woods have been trusted for many years and the latest iteration takes things to the next level with this model featuring a completely new, lightweight design.

Callaway have combined Titanium face and body with a carbon crown and sole plate for maximum weight savings, and our testing showed it had some significant knock on results.

The change in weighting and CG meant we gained distance off the tee, largely thanks to the increased ball flight, and found fairways with much greater accuracy.

There’s no doubting these are long and forgiving. The only negative is that they come with a slightly bigger price tag that other more recent releases from Callaway.

What Callaway says about the Great Big Bertha Fairway Woods:

“Our most powerful fairway wood ever utilizes a titanium construction, Forged Carbon sole, and multi-material weighting to increase ball speeds and improve forgiveness.

“Usually reserved for drivers, titanium provides Great Big Bertha with a significant weight and strength advantage compared to a traditional steel fairway wood.

“This weight savings enables us to create a larger, more forgiving footprint and an ultra-low CG that steel does not allow.

“The titanium face is uniquely optimized for each fairway wood head through A.I. for enhanced ball speed and spin consistency in a powerful design.

“Our Jailbreak with Batwing Technology pushes stiffness to the perimeter, while still allowing the face to flex for high ball speeds across the face.

“A Triaxial Carbon crown and Forged Carbon sole plate save significant weight vs. traditional steel. With all this discretionary weight, our engineers leveraged 50g of internal tungsten and a 15g steel plate on the sole to create an easier, higher launch.”
