Poston’s final round of two-under was enough to secure a three shot victory over Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Emiliano Grillo at TPC Deere Run.
Poston had carded a nine-under par 62 in the opening round and was never headed as he lifted the John Deere Classic title.
The win earned Poston a place in the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews.
It was the second PGA Tour win of Poston’s career following his maiden success almost three years earlier in the 2019 Wyndham Championship.
He lost a play-off to Seamus Power in the 2021 Barbasol Championship.
The latest victory moved Horschel up from 99th to 58th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
