Ping have launched the new PLD Milled SE DS72 putter with the patina model a replica of Viktor Hovland’s flat stick, but at an affordable price than previous limited releases.
Hovland has long had the DS72 mid-mallet in his bag with the Norwegian trusting the putter on the greens of the PGA Tour and European Tour.
In honour Hovland, Ping released 100 special edition replica DS72 putters last year at a huge $990 price tag. Such was the popularity, we now have the SE DS72 “Hovland Edition” at a more affordable $485.
The Hovi version will be mass market and not limited in numbers, and will be near identical to the putter that he has used during his tour victories.
Ping PLD Milled SE DS72 Putter Design & Specs
The PLD SE DS72 is a mid-mallet design in Ping’s Milled range and is near identical to the standard DS72 that was first released.
The SE model has one key difference with the putter head finished in a patina look compared to the silver head that the DS72 was first released in.

Boasting curved edges similar to the Anser models, the larger mid-mallet putter head of the DS 72 really inspires confidence over even though most testing of putts.
The head is milled from 1018 carbon steel and featured a flat milled face to deliver the most pleasing roll on putting greens.
The large sight line on the patina head really helps with alignment and the double bend shaft provides a clean look at the putter standing over the ball.

The 360g weight gives added stability to the DS72 and reduced twisting from a putter that is suited to a straight back and through putting stroke.
The putter grip is black with orange Ping branding, a nice touch given Hovland’s history as a graduate of Oklahoma State. It was here that the Ping-Hovland relationship first began.

Ping PLD Milled SE DS72 Putter Review: Is it any good?
The DS72 putter has been very impressive and the limited edition Hovi version flew off the shelves for that reason.
This special edition version is more affordable, available more readily and interestingly have been released in a patina colorway that we’ve seen before in Ping putters ranges.

It’s a good looking putter and we know already that the DS72 mid-mallet delivers the goods in terms of performance. This special edition version might just be worth the hefty price tag.
