Viktor Hovland landed his first win in 19 months when securing the title at the Valspar Championship in March 2025. A look at Viktor Hovland: What’s In The Bag.
Hovland had endured a tough time of things, but returned to the winners circle as he came from three behind to finish on 11-under par in the Valspar Championship, one clear of Justin Thomas.
It was Hovland’s 11th career victory and ended a drought dating back to August 2023 when he won the BMW Championship and Tour Championship in successive weeks.
It has been a long time since August 2023 when Hovland stunned his rivals in the penultimate event of the PGA Tour season, shooting a course record 61 at Olympia Fields North Course to win the BMW Championship.
A week later, he added the season-ending Tour Championship to his CV following a five-shot victory over Xander Schauffele at East Lake to win the FedExCup Cup.
Hovland also beat Denny McCarthy on the first extra hole of a play-off in the 2023 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club during a memorable year for the Norwegian.
Hovland had also successfully signed off 2022 with victory as he defended the Hero World Challenge title he also won in 2021.
In 2021, Hovland won by one shot from Scottie Scheffler at Albany Golf Club. In 2022, it was a two shot victory over the same rival in the Bahamas.
Hovland started 2022 by winning for the third time in five starts with victory in the Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour.
He recorded a dominant victory in the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba in November 2021 to go back-to-back in the PGA Tour event at El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa Del Carmen in Mexico.
Hovland made it wins in successive starts in the Tiger Woods-hosted Hero World Challenge in December 2021 before winning the Dubai Desert Classic in January 2022 for his third victory in five starts.
Already a winner on the PGA Tour following victories in the Puerto Rico Open and Mayakoba Classic in 2020, Hovland also became the first Norwegian winner on the European Tour when he lifted the BMW International Open title in 2021.
In 2022, Hovland signed a multi-year agreement to stay with Ping.
