Scotty Cameron Champions Choice Button Back Plus Putters Review (4 NEW Models)

Scotty Cameron Champions Choice Button Back Putters

Scotty Cameron Champions Choice Button Back Plus Putters have joined the range on offer as a limited-edition release of four models from August 2023.

Featuring a unique red, white and blue button in each of the club heads, Scotty Cameron have opted to only include the four Plus size models in the Champions Choice Button Back putters.

The Newport Plus, Newport 1.5 Plus, Newport 2 Plus and Newport 2.5 Plus are the four options with each of the blades featuring a Teryllium inlay rather than the stainless steel face of most Scotty putters.

We take a look at the new addition to the market, how they differ from other ranges and what you can expect if splashing out on the Button Back putters.

What Scotty Cameron says about the Champions Choice Button Back Plus putters:

“Expanding the options in Teryllium-inlayed putters, Scotty Cameron has created four new Champions Choice Button Back Plus models, each made in a limited engagement.

“Expanding the variety of models made in the popular new Plus size package, Scotty’s limited release Champions Choice Newport Plus Button Back builds on the legacy of the first-generation of models while also offering a fresh take on high-performance blade putter design.

“The 6061 aircraft grade aluminium sole plate is engineered into the precision milled 303 stainless steel putter head for proper balance, ideal weight distribution and higher MOI.

“In conjunction with the Teryllium inlay, a familiar three-button-head-screw configuration and customisable performance weighting, this new model with its winning red, white and blue accents offers the aesthetics of a modern blade with the soft, responsive feel of Teryllium.”

Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport Plus Putter

Scotty Cameron Newport Plus Button Back

The Newport Plus was first added to the Super Select Series having been designed with a slightly wider look to the Newport.

This model is wider from face to flange than the standard Newport putters and is designed to have a more confidence-inspiring look over the ball.

The Button Back model has an I-beam plumbing neck for a classic look at address, has a balanced putter and weight from the 6061 aircraft grade aluminium sole plate and a high MOI for increased forgiveness.

Scotty Cameron have introduced a Teryllium insert into the face of this model, offering a soft and responsive feel on every ball strike and an alternative to the solid milled stainless steel design in other ranges.

The three-button-head-screw configuration is coloured red, white and blue and the putter is joined by a matching head cover and features a Pistolini Plus Grip.

Scotty Cameron Button Back Newport 1.5 Plus Putter

The Newport 1.5 Plus putter is added to the Button Back range as an alternative to the Newport Plus, specifically targetting golfers with an arced putting stroke.

This model has an I-beam jet neck design that enhances toe-flow as well as a three-quarter shaft offset, and is the perfect option for those arced style swings.

It also has a larger putter flange at the ideal weight, which allows for this model to be properly balanced for the MOI and forgiveness to be maximised.

The 1.5 Plus is built with a 303 stainless steel putter head and features a 6061 aircraft grade aluminium sole plate.

Scotty Cameron’s Teryllium face inlay is the key new design element, offering vibration dampening technology on all putts on the green.

It features the new red, white and blue three-button-head-screw configuration and a matching grip and putter head cover.

Scotty Cameron Button Back Newport 2 Plus Putter

The Newport 2 Plus was introduced into the Super Select Series as a larger version of the Newport 2, but at the same time a smaller option than the Squareback 2.

It has been included as part of the Button Back series with the three-button-head-screw configuration coloured red, white and blue.

The Newport 2 Plus is a wider design with a larger footprint with a more confidence inspiring putter head, and to provide more dominant alignment aids.

The putter head is made from solid 303 stainless steel, has the 6061 aircraft grade aluminum sole plate and the new Teryllium inlay face.

The introduction of the Teryllium means the Newport 2 Plus has improved vibration dampening technology for a better feel and off the blade.

This model has an I-beam plumbing neck for a mid toe flow set up and a full shaft offset to provide plenty of forgiveness.

Scotty Cameron Button Back Newport 2.5 Plus Putter

Like the 1.5 Plus model, the Newport 2.5 putter features an I-beam-style jet neck for significant toe flow to suit golfers with an arced putting stroke.

The oversized blade was added to the Super Select Series as an incredibly forgiving putter with enhanced MOI including a three-quarter offset shaft.

It is very similar in terms of head to the Newport 2 Plus but has more toe flow as well as a marginally wider footprint to aid alignment on the greens.

The milled 303 stainless steel putter head is accompanied by an engineered 6061 aircraft grade aluminium sole plate and the new Teryllium face inlay, which improves vibration via dampening technology.

The Newport 2.5 also features the trio of red, white and blue button screws, a matching head cover and a blue and white textured Pistolini Plus grip.

Verdict: Are the Scotty Cameron Champions Choice Button Back Plus Putters any good?

As with any putter from Scotty Cameron, the answer is yes. They don’t do bad putters and the Button Back models add another dimension.

The fact they have only used four of the plus-size models shows that they have thought closely about which putters will work best with the new Teryllium inlay design feature.

It is an interesting move to add the insert rather than stick with the standard milled stainless steel face in other putters. But that is what makes these limited-edition releases a unique offering.
