The latest generation of the TaylorMade P790 irons has been launched for 2025 with a new design and upgraded technologies in the players’ model.
TaylorMade’s P790s have been a mainstay of the company’s irons models, offering an all round performance that blends accuracy, forgiveness, shot shaping and distance.
The new 2025 version boast a new forged face material that is 20% stronger and thinner and has a 24% larger sweet spot.
TaylorMade have also refined the shape of the latest generation compared to the 2023 P790s, Phantom Black P790 Aged Copper P790s for a cleaner look and improved ball striking.
2025 TaylorMade P790 Irons Design & Specs
The TaylorMade P790 irons are now into the fifth generation with the 2025 model given a significant makeover to deliver more performance benefits.
The first key change is the introduction of a new face material with the irons featuring a 4340M forged face that is 20% stronger and thinner.
The design of the face has resulted in a 24% larger sweet spot and increased ball speeds compared to the previous generation.
TaylorMade have improved the FLTD CG technology, which optimizes the center of gravity placement throughout the set. Longer irons have lower CG for better launch, while shorter irons have higher CG for more control.
The new P790 irons have refined shaping with a thinner topline for a cleaner look at address, while the sole geometry has been modified to improve turf interaction.
The now standard Thru-Slot Speed Pocket is still present in the 2025 irons with the longer irons (4-iron to 7-iron) maintaining ball speeds on mis-hits and shots struck low on the face.
TaylorMade have used T-modal analysis to optimize each iron head for improved sound and feel, and the P790 logo has been moved to the center of the club back to match the design of other TaylorMade irons.
The P790s are available in 4-iron (20 degrees) to approach wedge (49 degrees) with the 3-iron removed from the latest series.
