NEW FOR 2023: Phantom Black TaylorMade P790 Irons Review
What TaylorMade says about the P790 irons:
“From the very beginning, P790 irons have been rooted in clean aesthetics and thoughtful design. However, their true beauty is found beneath the surface.
“With AI-optimized weighting and SpeedFoam Air on the inside, every iron is uniquely designed to perform exactly how you need it to. As striking as they are on the outside, their true beauty lies within.
“Every individual iron has a unique internal structure, featuring strategic mass distribution and precision tungsten weighting. This AI-optimized construction is engineered to create an unrivaled blend of distance, forgiveness and accuracy.

“FLTD CG strategically positions the center of gravity (CG) lowest in the long irons and progressively shifts higher throughout the set.
“A new thick-thin back wall construction unlocks additional weight redistribution, further optimizing mass properties for pinpoint CG placement. The design produces better launch and playability in long irons with precision and control in the scoring clubs.
“P790’s forged hollow body is the ideal construction for blending performance with premium feel. An all-new internal sound stabilization bar combines with SpeedFoam Air to deliver an elevated forged iron feel.”

TaylorMade P790 Irons Design & Features
The TaylorMade P790 Irons are now into the fourth generation with the 2023 release having several new features that appeal to a number of levels of players.
The key change in the new generation is that each iron has a unique internal structure to ensure they are perfectly balanced, optimally weighted and bring out the best in your game.
They feature new thick-thin back wall construction, designed by AI, to help move weight and ensure the centre of gravity is optimized on every iron through the bag.

What TaylorMade refer to FLTD CG, the CG moves position through the set for a combined amount of forgiveness, accuracy and distance.
The longer irons have an improved launch angle, while the weighting now means the more lofted irons are more precise and offer better control.
TaylorMade have also made changes to the Speedfoam Air inside the hollow-body clubhead for a better feel and elevation off the face.

The irons have a 4140 forged high speed face which is now just 1.56mm at its thinnest location and features a new sweet spot design as a result of the weighting shift.
The P790s also feature the now standard TaylorMade Thru-Slot Speed Pocket in the longer irons to provide increased face flexibility and maintaining ball speed and distance on low face strikes.
The P790s are available in 3-iron (19 degrees) to gap wedge (50 degrees).
