TaylorMade SIM 2 Max Irons Review

The TaylorMade SIM 2 Max Irons are an upgraded model designed to provide distance, forgiveness and improved performance on off-center strikes.

These irons are an ideal for mid to high handicap players rather than the likes of the P770 and P790 irons from TaylorMade.

Cap Back technology is the key design element in the SIM 2 Max as it helps create an “intelligent” sweet spot that maximises performance in the most common mis-hit areas.

The Cap Back design is different from traditional cavity back or muscle back irons, as it links the topline and the backbar using two connection points to form a bridge across the cavity.

The wide sole on this model helps to lower the center of gravity by moving mass in the clubhead, while the Thru-Slot Speed Pocket technology helps with face flex for more ball speed and distance.

Strong lofts in the Max irons produce a lot of distance while confidence is inspired by moderate offset and a thick top line in these game improvement irons.

The Echo Damping System provides a softer feel with less vibrations, giving the feel of a forged iron but with more flex for faster speeds.

The SIM 2 Max irons are available in 4-iron (19 degrees) to Lob Wedge (59 degrees).

TaylorMade SIM 2 Max OS Irons Review

The SIM 2 Max OS Irons feature many of the same technologies as the Max model, but significantly they have a larger club head for added forgiveness.

The sole and topline are also larger, the blade is longer and there is a significant amount of offset added to this version to make it more consistent.

TaylorMade SIM 2 Max OS Irons

The end result is that the OS version produces a higher launch angle and ball flight and a quicker stopping distance given the trajectory.

Despite delivering a higher ball flight, the Max OS irons are actually 1 or 1.5 degrees stronger and the strongest yet from TaylorMade in this particular sector.

The Max OS irons have the same all-new Cap Back Design for an oversized sweet spot, and the latest improved Echo Damping System for feel.

The Thru-Slot Speed Pocket technology helps with face flex for more ball speed and distance.

The Max OS irons are available in 4-iron (18 degrees) to Lob Wedge (58 degrees).

TaylorMade SIM 2 Max Irons Review: Is the Max 2 or OS irons best?

TaylorMade have extracted even more performance from the SIM 2 series with the latest design improving speed, flexibility and forgiveness.

The key has come in the new Cap Back technology with a larger sweet spot and even more forgiveness in the most complete game improving iron.

A great choice for mid to high handicap players who want a forgiving iron, we preferred the Max in testing with the OS delivering a slightly too high a ball flight.

Both are incredibly long for this type of iron and offer superb forgiveness in an all-round package.
