Angela Stanford has been appointed as the captain of the United States team for the 2026 Solheim Cup in the Netherlands.

A former major champion and seasoned Solheim Cup competitor, 47-year-old Stanford played in the event six times and has been an assistant captain on three occasions.

She replaces Stacy Lewis as USA captain and will leading the defending champions into battle in the Netherlands from September 11-13, 2026 at Bernardus Golf.

Stanford will face off against European captain Anna Nordqvist, who will also be leading her side for the first time after an illustrious career and assistant roles.

Angela Stanford Solheim Cup Captaincy Reaction

“I’m extremely grateful to be named the next American captain for the Solheim Cup and join a list of my heroes in the game,” said Stanford.

“I’ve always believed that I represent more than myself on the LPGA Tour, and there is no greater honour than representing your country.

“I consider this the pinnacle of my career and I’m looking forward to leading our players to the Netherlands.”

Angela Stanford Career & Solheim Cup Record

Stanford played in six Solheim Cups and served as an assistant captain three times, most recently in 2024 under Stacy Lewis.

She was part of the last USA team to win on European soil in 2015 when she secured the decisive point against Suzann Pettersen in Germany.

In total, she had three victories and three defeats in her six Solheim Cups and had a 4-13-3 win-loss-tied record in 20 matches.

In a 24-year LPGA career Stanford won seven tournaments including the Evian Championship in 2018 for her sole major success.

She officially retired in 2024 having earned a place in the record books following 98 consecutive majors appearances, the longest streak in LPGA history.
