The World Golf Championship event is played at Austin Country Club in Texas as the world’s top 64 ranked players go head to head in a matchplay format.

Billy Horschel is the reigning champion after beating Scottie Scheffler in the final in 2021.

The WGC Match Play was first held in 1999 and is the premier matchplay event of the season, being co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

Previous champions include Tiger Woods, Henrik Stenson, Ian Poulter, Matt Kuchar, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson.

WGC Dell Technologies Match Play Golf Format & Schedule

The WGC Match Play features the top 64 ranked players draw into 16 groups of four. Each player plays three round robin matches to determine the group winner.

The 16 group winners progress to the knockout stages, which are played over the weekend (last 16 and quarter-finals on Saturday, semi-finals and final on Sunday)

• Day 1 – Group Stages – Wednesday, March 23
• Day 2 – Group Stages – Thursday, March 24
• Day 3 – Group Stages – Friday, March 25
• Day 4 – Last 16 & Quarter-Finals – Saturday, March 26
• Day 5 – Semi-Finals & Final – Sunday, March 27

The tournament carries a total prize fund of $12,000,000 USD with the winner collecting $2,160,000 USD.
