Three Englishmen Offering Betting Value For The 2024 Masters

Augusta US Masters

The year’s first Major is drawing ever closer and we’ve turned attentions to the 2024 Masters betting ahead of the Augusta showpiece in April.

While seeing the spring sunshine and the gentle climes of Augusta National might seem remote in the dead of winter, you can be sure that the majority of the world’s top players have the Masters on their minds as we race through the early part of 2024.

Questions about players’ form in the leadup to the 2024 Masters are starting to creep into the media coverage, too, and we are starting to see who the contenders are.

Sportsbooks, of course, released odds for the 2024 Masters not long after Jon Rahm sunk his winning putt last year. But those odds have changed over the weeks and months, and they throw up some interesting possibilities.

As you might expect, the golf betting markets are led by Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler. The trio have been the best-performing players of the last 10 months, so you can understand why they are given the shortest odds.

McIlroy Is Now In His 10th Year Without A Major

Yet, it’s not always that easy, and golf bettors will have doubts. McIlroy, for instance, is now in his 10th year without a win in a Major tournament.

There have been plenty of near misses, and the general consensus is that the Northern Irishman will break his duck soon.

However, you can understand the reluctance of punters who might look further down the betting markets for some longer-odds value.

Overpriced Englishmen For The 2024 Masters

As it happens, there are three Englishmen who look like they are overpriced by the sportsbooks.

Danny Willett is the last Englishman to win the Masters in 2016 (at huge odds, by the way), and then you have to go all the way to 1996 and Nick Faldo’s third triumph at Augusta.

Yet, there are English players with a little bit of form coming into 2024, and there is no reason to suggest they won’t do well at the 2024 Masters (April 11th-14th).

First up is Tommy Fleetwood, freshly minted 2024 Dubai Invitational champion. You can get odds of 50/1 on the world number 11, and that looks like great value.

Fleetwood looked sublime in Dubai, and his odds will clearly shorten if he carries that form into the spring. Perhaps the one thing standing against him is that he has not performed well at Augusta in the past, his best finish being a tie for 14th in 2022.

Still, he has the game to conquer Augusta, and the odds simply scream value.

Next up is a player who has gone slightly under the radar as one of the world’s best over the last year – Matt Fitzpatrick.

The 29-year-old has worked his way up to number eight in the world, and he has, of course, the experience of winning a Major (the 2022 US Open, where he beat Scheffler and Will Zalatoris by a single stroke.

Fitzpatrick has a couple of top-10 finishes at the Masters, so he can clearly handle Augusta and 40/1 is a big price for a top player.

Finally, we have Tyrrell Hatton, who is also listed as a 50/1 shot. Like Fleetwood, he hasn’t performed as well at the Masters as he has done at other Majors. Yet, he has a game that suits Augusta, and he has proven on the PGA Tour that he can mix it up with anyone.

Hatton did not have a great 2023 in terms of results, but he was one of the standout performers for Europe at the Ryder Cup. If he can bring that game to Augusta, he could make a mockery of those odds.

So, there we have it. Three Englishmen are believed to have big chances at the 2024 Masters. The tournament can be difficult to predict, of course.

And perhaps it is time for Rory McIlroy to finally get his hands on the Green Jacket. Or maybe Rahm or Scheffler will win it for a second time.

But if you are looking for betting value, it’s difficult to look beyond any of those candidates from England. They have the game for Augusta. The question is – can they deliver?
