The event debuted as part of the 2022 PGA Tour season when upgraded to PGA Tour status as it moved homes to Vidanta Vallarta.
It is now in the fourth year and is one of the early season events on the 2025 PGA Tour calendar once again as a February tournament in Mexico.
Jon Rahm became the inaugural winner of the PGA Tour event at Vidanta Vallarta in 2022, Tony Finau won in 2023 and Jake Knapp is the defending champion following success in 2024.
The Mexico Open was first held in 1944 and was part of the Tour de las Americas, European Challenge Tour, Korn Ferry Tour before becoming part of the PGA Tour Latinoamerica in 2013.

Mexico Open will be played over four rounds / 72 holes at Vidanta Vallarta with a cut after the opening two rounds.
- Day 1 – Thursday, February 20
