Great Britain & Ireland Win 2025 Team Cup With Emphatic Result

Abu Dhabi Golf Club

Great Britain and Ireland won the Team Cup 2025, defeating Continental Europe in a dominant result and performance at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

Tommy Fleetwood secured the winning point in the Sunday singles matches, helping to lead the GB&I team to a convincing 17-8 victory.

The final day began with Great Britain and Ireland holding a commanding 11-4 lead and needing only two points from the ten singles matches to clinch the title for the first time.

Laurie Canter quickly earned the first of those points with a 5&4 win over the previously unbeaten Romain Langasque to put the GB&I Team Cup team on the verge of victory.

Fleetwood then sealed the victory by defeating Matthieu Pavon 3&1 in the top match to guarantee GB&I victory and avenging their 2023 loss to Continental Europe.

GB&I went on to dominate the rest of the singles matches with Tyrrell Hatton beating Thorbjorn Olesen 3&1, captain Justin Rose defeating Julien Guerrier 3&2 and Paul Waring taking down Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen 4&3.

Jordan Smith halved his match with European captain Francesco Molinari and Rasmus Hojgaard won the last hole to tie with Aaron Rai in the final match.

Continental Europe picked up full points via Niklas Norgaard beating Matthew Jordan 3&2 and from Antoine Rozner and Matteo Manassero winning 1up against Matt Wallace and Tom McKibbin respectively.

2025 Team Cup Result Reaction

Tommy Fleetwood said: “What an unbelievable group of lads we had this week and an unbelievable captain. A pleasure to be a part of it, and everybody just played so well.

“I always find it very motivating and inspiring being around the lads in a team environment, and you want to get the best out of yourself for the team. Just happy we got it done this time and I’m sure we’ll enjoy it later.

“For me on an individual level, I’m so close to Justin, I think so highly of him. He’s one of my closest people out here, and he has been for a long time.

“I think he’s been a phenomenal captain. I think seeing his insights on how he views certain situations, how he sees the way the week pans out, I think you’re constantly learning off him, and he was great.

“All the lads absolutely loved playing for him. He was an unbelievable captain and I’m glad that we got the win for him this time.”

Captain Justin Rose added: “Wow. Obviously we were all keen to come out today, I think all the lads earned the right to play for themselves and continue what has been a great week for all of us.

“Unbelievable, so much pink on the leaderboard. It is surprising to go that deep, but every player has come out here with no complacency. It’s amazing.”
