Akie Iwai claimed her first LPGA Tour win when landing the title in the Portland Classic in August 2025. A look at Akie Iwai: What’s In The Bag.
Iwai, who is in her debut season on the LPGA Tour having joined twin sister Chisato – who is also a winner, secured a four-shot victory for her breakthrough success.
The Japanese star finished on 24-under par in the 2025 Portland Classic, four clear of Gurleen Kaur at Columbia Edgewater Country Club.
Iwai earned her LPGA Tour card via Q School in December 2024 when finishing fifth in qualifying, in which her twin sister finished runner-up to also secure her status for the 2025 season.
Prior to getting that tour card, she had finished second to Angel Yin in the 2024 Honda LPGA Thailand. She was also runner-up to Ingrid Lindblad in the 2025 JM Eagle LA Championship.
Akie has won eight times on the LPGA of Japan Tour and once on the Step-Up Tour, which was her first victory in 2021.
On the LPGA Japan Tour, Iwai won the 2023 KKT Cup Vantelin Ladies Open, Sumitomo Life Vitality Ladies Tokai Classic and Miyagi TV Cup Dunlop Women’s Open Golf Tournament.
She also won the 2024 Resort Trust Ladies, Nichirei Ladies and Sumitomo Life Vitality Ladies Tokai Classic.
