Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club secured a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory against Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf in the most exciting TGL match to date.
In what was the fourth match of the new TGL series on Monday, January 27, 2025, the two founding members of Tomorrow’s Golf League went head to head.
It marked the first time a TGL clash went to overtime with McIlroy suffering defeat on his team’s first match of the 2025 TGL season.
It was a welcome win for Woods’ Jupiter Links, as they bounced back from a heavy 12-1 defeat against Los Angeles GC in their previous match when making their TGL debut.
The match between Jupiter Links and Boston Common was closely contested throughout, with both teams trading points.
Boston Common took an early lead, winning the first point on the third hole during the triples format. Jupiter Links levelled on the sixth hole, leaving the score tied 1-1 heading into singles play.
In singles, McIlroy and Woods faced off directly on the 10th and 13th holes. McIlroy won their short-game battle on the 10th, but Woods matched McIlroy’s “hammer” putt on the 13th, keeping the match tight.
Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim added two points for Jupiter Links on the 11th and 12th holes, but Adam Scott tied the match for Boston Common on the 14th hole, forcing overtime.
The overtime format featured a closest-to-the-pin challenge. Kim stepped up for Jupiter Links, placing his shot closer to the hole than Keegan Bradley’s attempt for Boston Common.
Kisner then sealed the victory for Jupiter Links with a shot that bested Scott’s effort.
Tiger Woods made TGL history by receiving the league’s first shot clock violation, but he took responsibility and said: “Normally I slow my heart rate down before I pull the trigger, so dropping my heart rate down sometimes takes a little bit longer than others.
“As I told these guys, it’s on me. I should have called time out as I built in my stance because of the time. But I was dropping my heart rate down like I normally would. It just took too long.”
