It was Fitzpatrick’s second win of 2023 having also won the RBC Heritage in a play-off with Jordan Spieth in April.

Fitzpatrick ended the shortened Dunhill Links Championship, which was reduced to three days, on 19-under par.

He was three shots clear of defending champion Ryan Fox, Matthew Southgate and Marcus Armitage, while he also won the Pro-Am title with mum Sarah.

Before the latest victory Fitzpatrick was positioned at a career high eighth in the Official World Golf Rankings.

The win came a week after Fitzpatrick had been part of the victorious European Team at the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Fitzpatrick now has 10 career victories having also won the 2015 British Masters, 2016 Nordea Masters, 2016 and 2020 DP World Tour Championship, 2017 and 2018 Omega European Masters and 2021 Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters on the DP World Tour.

On the PGA Tour, he won the 2023 RBC Heritage and also claimed his maiden major succss when landing the US Open in June 2022 nine years after winning the US Amateur Open at The Country Club at Brookline.
