The Memorial Tournament Flag

The 2025 Memorial Tournament tees off this Thursday May 29 at Muirfield Village Golf Club with world number two Rory McIlroy absent from the betting odds.

As the seventh Signature Event of the PGA Tour season, The Memorial boasts a $20 million purse and a 72-player field teeing it up in Dublin, Ohio.

Notably absent is McIlroy, who is skipping the event for the first time since 2017 to focus on the upcoming US Open.

Defending champion and world number one Scottie Scheffler enters as the heavy favorite having recently won the PGA Championship and finished T4 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Other top contenders include Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay, a two-time Memorial winner.

Muirfield Village, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is a par-72 course measuring 7,569 yards. Known for its challenging layout, the course has produced winning scores in the single digits under par in three of the last five years.

2025 Memorial Tournament Contenders

Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler enters as the clear favorite, having recently won the PGA Championship and the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. As the defending champion at Muirfield Village, his consistent top finishes make him a formidable contender.

Xander Schauffele

Schauffele has a solid history at Muirfield Village with five top-15 finishes. However, his form in 2025 has been inconsistent, with only one top-10 finish in eight events.

Collin Morikawa

Morikawa narrowly missed victory here last year, finishing one shot behind Scheffler. His precise iron play suits the course well, making him a strong contender.
Golf

Justin Thomas

Thomas has shown strong form recently, including a win at the RBC Heritage. His all-around game positions him as a serious threat this week.

Patrick Cantlay

A two-time winner at the Memorial, Cantlay’s familiarity with Muirfield Village is a significant advantage. Despite missing the cut last year, his course history suggests he could contend again.

Ludvig Aberg

Aberg is an emerging talent with impressive performances in 2025. While he lacks extensive experience at Muirfield Village, his recent form makes him a player to watch.

Tommy Fleetwood

Fleetwood has been consistent, with a notable T9 finish at the Players Championship. His game aligns well with the demands of Muirfield Village, making him a potential dark horse.

Viktor Hovland

The 2023 Memorial champion, Hovland has a proven track record at this course. His familiarity with Muirfield Village could give him an edge.
