Mizuno ST-G 440 Driver Review (NEW 400cc Release For 2023)

Mizuno ST-G 440 Driver

The Mizuno ST-G 440 driver is the new release and the latest generation of the ST-G model. After being officially unveiled for 2023 and 2024, we take a look at the 440cc new driver.

Mizuno unveiled the latest version of the ST-G, which gets the number this time from the size of the “squat” 440cc head, at the 2023 Open Championship and it is the successor to the ST-G 220 that debuted in 2022.

The latest release has two repositioned sliding weight tracks for maximum setup and adjustable options, as well as the Cortech Chamber which also features in the ST-X 230 and ST-Z 230 drivers.

We take a look at the changes Mizuno have made, what they will do to performance and provide all the information about the new 2023 Mizuno ST-G driver, which are joined by first-ever ST-G Titanium woods.

What Mizuno says about the ST-G 440 driver:

“Mizuno’s squat, powerful, player’s driver combines the scope to optimize launch and spin with the ball speed enhancements of Mizuno’s CORTECH Chamber.

“Two convergent weight tracks allow the ST-G to be anything from a low spin bomber, fade or draw biased or simply a more stable compact driver.

“The ST-G boasts a new lighter, fast face material – measuring 9% higher in tensile strength (compared to SAT2041) for a complex multi-thickness face geometry.

“An extension of lightweight carbon into the toe section allows an even greater level of shot shape adjustability.

“A combination of Mizuno’s CORTECH Chamber and internal tuning ribs creates a more solid feel at impact – in the full range of weight settings.”

Mizuno ST-G 440cc Specs & Design

The ST-G 440 is the latest version of Mizuno’s popular model and one which has been introduced in a slightly smaller 440cc clubhead for 2023 and 2024.

The so-called “squat” driver is more compact than the previous version, but improvements have been made to the weighting of the latest model.

The new ST-G has two weighting tracks once again, but both the front and back are longer than before and more in line with the ST-G 220 range.

The two weights can be positioned for draw, fade or neutral bias as well as adjusted separately to provide a low, medium or high ball flight.

The Cortech Chamber has been brought into the ST-G having appeared in the previous ST-Z drivers, and is designed to enhance ball speeds across the face.

It works in harmony with the internal tuning ribs to enhance the feel off the face as well as produce consistently impressive ball speeds.

The face itself is a forged Ti-LFS construction with this titanium construction a change from previous versions. The multi-material construction is now 9% lighter and also produces faster ball speeds.

The new ST-G 440 driver is available in 9.5 degrees loft only with four degrees of adjustability (7.5-11.5).

Verdict: Is the Mizuno ST-G 440 driver any good?

Mizuno unveiled the new driver at the 2023 Open Championship before a two month wait for the full release of the model.

The ST-G 220 was a solid performer and the 440 is an interesting move with the more compact 440cc driver head offering something a little different.

The combination of an improved feel from the Cortech Chamber, better setup options from the slightly altered sliding tracks and a faster face add up to an impressive new option.
