PXG 0311 GEN7 Irons Review (QuantumCOR Added For 2024)

PXG 0311 GEN7 Irons Review

PXG 0311 GEN7 irons are new for 2024 with the P & XP models the seventh generation and now featuring new QuantumCOR Technology for the first time.

PXG have opted to retain just the XP (Xtreme Performance) and P (Players) models in the latest generation of irons, which replace the 0311 GEN6 irons.

The P are suited to low-to-mid handicappers and the XP for mid-to-high handicapper, and they offer improved performance across all design sectors in the new release.

After 10 years of development, QuantumCOR Technology debuts in the seventh gen irons and the new weighting structure has allowed PXG to make them more forgiving than ever before.

PXG 0311 GEN7 P Irons Specs & Design

The GEN 7 irons from PXG have some notable changes made to them compared to previous versions, including the new QuantumCOR technology to purchase the boundaries to the limit.

The patented technology features a lightweight material in the clubhead and it has allowed weight to be shifted low and to the perimeter of the back to make the P irons significantly more forgiving.

Working in combination with the ultrathin face technology, the GEN 7 irons deliver unprecedented face deflection and faster ball speeds than in any previous version.

The face is made from ultra-thin maraging steel, which is five times forged 8620 soft carbon steel, and is even thinner than before at just 0.050 inches, which is a 15% reduction.

The 0311 P irons continue to feature the Power Channel Technology for increased face flex, with the U-shaped corridor in the clubhead allowing for maximum movement upon impact.

The new model also has a titanium insert retain as part of the Precision Weighting Technology to help move weight to the perimeter and increase the MOI.

The CG of the irons is balanced thanks to the inclusion to a 20-gram toe mass of tungsten, while the large weight at the back of the clubhead helps with the overall balance.

PXG 0311 P irons are available in lofts of 4-iron (20.5 degrees) to gap wedge (49 degrees). They are available in steel or black versions.

PXG 0311 GEN7 XP Irons Specs & Design

The PXG 0311 XP irons return new and improved in the GEN7 range and the most forgiving of the two options in the 2024 series.

Known as the Xtreme Performance irons, they are aimed at mid-to-high handicap golfers and boast improved forgiveness levels in the latest release thanks to a larger size head with more offset.

One of the key features to add to the forgiveness has been the introduction of the QuantumCOR technology, which features a new proprietary core material inside the clubhead to reduce weight.

PXG have been able to use the weight saving to move weight low and towards the back of the clubhead to increase the MOI.

Forgiveness has also been boosted thanks to the internal 20-gram toe mass tungsten weighting and a lightweight titanium insert, which houses the Precision Weighting Technology.

An even thinner face, which is now less than 1.27mm thick – 15x less than the previous XP GEN6 irons, and the U-shaped Power Channel Technology both help create more face movement for increased ball speeds.

The CG of the XP model has also been increased than to the toe mass weighting and the large weight at the back of the clubhead, delivering an optimal trajectory and ball flight.

The XP irons are available from 4-iron (18 degrees) through to lob wedge (60 degrees). The sand wedge and lob wedge are only available in this set. They are available in steel or black versions.

Verdict: Are PXG 0311 GEN7 Irons any good?

PXG rarely – if ever – stand still and that is certainly the case with the seventh generation of the best-selling 0311 irons.

Improved weighting, more forgiveness, greater ball speeds off the thinnest face yet and a more stable ball flight is what you get from both models.

The introduction of QuantumCOR technology has created an even more impressive all-round performance, we just don’t know what the material is inside the clubhead.

The P irons are for those seeking shot shaping and ball striking, while the XP irons are for 10-handicap upwards. But they are seriously forgiving, long and straight in the hands of any golfer!

What PXG says about the GEN7 irons:

“10 years in the making, PXG’s extremely lightweight new proprietary core material – QuantumCOR – helps reduce the mass of the core which enables more weight to be positioned low and to the perimeter of the backside of the clubhead, dramatically increasing MOI.

“Combined with PXG’s variable ultrathin face technology, this enhances the COR to the USGA limit for extreme face deflection and incredible ball speed.

“Since their inception, PXG irons have maintained the thinnest face in golf, and with GEN7 the face is now even thinner.

“Made from high-strength HT1770 maraging steel, the variable ultra-thin face measures a mere 0.050” (~1.27mm) thick – 15% thinner than previous models.

“Combined with PXG’s proprietary core material, GEN7 Irons deliver a C.O.R. performance that pushes the USGA limit, helping increase distance and forgiveness while also enhancing sound and feel.

“Power Channel Technology is the proprietary U-shaped corridor built into the internal surface of the club face to increase deflection and bend in the top sector.

“The channel creates face movement and transfers energy to simultaneously increase launch angle, trajectory, and ball speed.

“A lightweight titanium insert, used to provide housing for the Precision Weighting Technology, removes mass from the center of the club in order to redistribute weight to the perimeter to boost MOI.

“GEN7 Irons feature internal 20-gram toe mass tungsten weighting that balance the Center of Gravity (CG) location in the center of the face while boosting Moment of Inertia (MOI) to increase forgiveness.

“One large weight is located near the CG on the back of the clubhead. This large center weight can be used to achieve optimal swing weight.

“Unique to PXG, customers can experience the benefits of these adjustments during an in-person fitting. Weighting is not intended to be adjusted after purchase.

“Each iron is five-times forged from 8620 soft carbon steel, creating a tight grain structure that increases its strength, prolonging the life of the grooves and enhancing the overall feel and appearance.

“Milling the back surface of each iron is a high-precision process that reduces the wall thickness more than forging alone could achieve, to create a high-performance body design and an enhanced aesthetic.”
