TaylorMade Spider GT Notchback Putter Review
The Notchback is a first mid-mallet in the Spider range
The TaylorMade Spider GT Notchback putter is one of four brand new models released for 2022. How good is the traditional mid-mallet design?
TaylorMade have taken the technological advances that made the previous Spiders so successful, and incorporated them into a mallet shape putter head that will have widespread appeal.
The new Spider GT putters also include the Spider GT, Spider GT Rollback and Spider GT Splitback in the four strong range.
What TaylorMade says about the Spider GT Notchback putter:
“Spider GT Notchback blends traditional mid-mallet shaping with contemporary construction.
“A shorter blade length and stout center create a time-honored shape that is enhanced by dual tungsten weights for forgiveness and stability.

“This is the first Spider to feature dual tungsten weights totaling 172g.
“Positioned along the heel and toe, this added weight is designed to produce more forgiveness and stability, allowing Spider GT Notchback to remain extremely stable on off-center strikes.
“This is the highest MOI mid-mallet TaylorMade has ever made.”

TaylorMade Spider GT Notchback Putter Design & Features
The GT Notchback is the first mid-mallet style putter in the Spider range, carrying all the technological and design elements but in a more traditional shape.
The design is key in the Notchback as it breaks new ground as the first Spider to feature dual tungsten weights along the heel and toe.

Combined with a lightweight 6061 aluminum body, the tungsten weights totalling 172g help provide the forgiveness, stability and distance control that the Spider range has become renowned for.
The end result is the highest MOI that TaylorMade have ever produced in a mid-mallet, which like all putters in this range feature a Pure Roll 2 insert.
The Notchback is available in silver only with two hosel options: single bend and short slant.

Verdict: Is the TaylorMade Spider GT Notchback putter any good?
If you always fancied playing a Spider putter but didn’t like the look of the previous models, you are in luck with the launch of a first mid-mallet.
The Notchback has a very traditional mallet style putter head, but significantly comes with all the perimeter weighting that has made the Spider putters so successful.
Incredibly forgiving with a high MOI and boasting a heavy putter head that is designed to stay straight through impact, you can expect to hole more putts with the Notchback in the bag.
