TaylorMade Spider GT Splitback Putter Review

TaylorMade Spider GT Splitback Putter

The TaylorMade Spider GT Splitback Putter is one of four brand new models released for 2022. How good is the the first Spider model to have wings?

TaylorMade have taken the technological advances that made the previous Spiders so successful, and incorporated them into a mallet shape putter head that will have widespread appeal.

The new Spider GT putters also include the Spider GT, Spider GT Notchback and Spider GT Rollback in the four strong range.

What TaylorMade says about the Spider GT Splitback putter:

“The refined 304 stainless-steel construction of Spider GT Splitback utilizes geometric shaping, sharp lines and advanced perimeter weighting to deliver enhanced stability and precision alignment.

“Engineers extracted weight from the wings to push mass to the perimeter for increased forgiveness, better stability, and more consistent performance across the face.

“The design maintains the forgiveness and stability of a Spider within a more compact head shape that’s preferred by many discerning players.

The new Spider GT Splitback features urethane foam strategically injected inside the putter head. The lightweight material helps dampen unwanted vibrations to provide enhanced sound and feel.

“The single bend hosel and modern design create a face balanced putter that better fits players with a straight-back and straight-through putting motion with minimal face rotation.”

A urethane foam has been injected inside the putter head to reduce vibrations and improve sound and feel and work alongside the Pure Roll face insert.

The Splitback is available only in black colour option with a white centre and contrasting sightline. There are two shafts to choose from, a short slant and single bend.

Verdict: Is the TaylorMade GT Splitback putter any good?

The Splitback is the first Spider model to have wings, and it has the look and feel of fang-style putters we have seen from other manufacturers in the past.

The stability and forgiveness that has been synonymous with Spiders since their inception is retained despite the switch in look and design of this model.

There is a lot to like about this putter, including the big white alignment area. It will suit golfers who prefer a standard mallet style look but with the stability benefits of all that the Spiders are about.
