The Tournament of Champions is the first event of the year on the PGA Tour and takes place at the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort in Maui, Hawaii.

A selected field of tournament winners from the 2022 PGA Tour season contest the first tournament of the season, which dates back to 1958.

Cameron Smith is the reigning champion having won the title in 2022, although he won’t be back to defend his crown.

Other former winners include Gene Littler, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Johnny Miller, Tom Watson, Lee Trevino, Paul Azinger, Davis Love III, Phil Mickelson, Mark O’Meara, Tiger Woods, David Duval, Jim Furyk, Sergio Garcia, Ernie Els, Stuart Appleby, Vijay Singh, Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele.

The tournament of champions moved to Maui in 1999 and was previously staged at Desert Inn Country Club in Las Vegas, Stardust Country Club in Las Vegas and La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.

Tournament of Champions Golf Format & Schedule

The Tournament of Champions will be played over four rounds / 72 holes at the par-73 Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort. There is no weekend cut owing to the small field taking part.

• Day 1 – Thursday, January 5
• Day 2 – Friday, January 6
• Day 3 – Saturday, January 7
• Day 4 – Sunday, January 8

The tournament carries a prize fund of $15,000,000 USD.
