Los Angeles GC and The Bay GC are into the TGL Playoffs after sealing their spots with victories on Monday, February 24.
In a double header at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens in Florida, LAGC beat New York Golf Club 5-4 in overtime and Atlanta Drive GC overcame Boston Common Golf 6-3.
Those results put Atlanta Drive on the cusp on securing a playoff spot and confirmed LAGC’s place as well as The Bay GC, who are into the finals without playing on Monday night.
Los Angeles Golf Club secured the first playoff spot of the season with a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory against New York GC.
The match saw a remarkable comeback from LAGC, who won four points in the last four holes to force overtime. Tony Finau, making his debut on a 10-day contract, played a crucial role in turning the tide for LAGC.
After the match, Finau reflected on the thrilling comeback and said: “You’re telling me there’s a chance, right? Just like Jim Carrey said.”
The NYGC vs LAGC match featured some impressive putting, with Cameron Young sinking the longest putt in TGL history at 38’6″, breaking Rickie Fowler’s record set earlier in the same match.
In the second match of the night, Atlanta Drive defeated Boston Common Golf 6-3 to move to a 3-1-0 record and second place in the standings.
The win put Atlanta in a strong position to clinch a TGL playoffs spot along with Los Angeles GC and The Bay GC.
Rory McIlroy’s winless Boston Common Golf team is now on the brink of elimination from postseason contention.
They will be officially eliminated if Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links win their match on Tuesday.
