The Scotty Cameron Phantom X 5.5 putter has been upgraded for 2024 with an improved design for the compact wingback mallet. What are the changes?

The X5.5 putter is one of 10 separate mallets in the upgraded Phantom X series with new dual milled technology and optimized designs for the 2024 versions.

The new Phantom X 5.5 putter has stability weighting thanks stepless steel shafts, a new sole design and adjustable sole weights for improved balance.

It differs from the X 5 having been designed with an I-beam Jet Neck hosel, but how have Scotty Cameron tweaked the design compared to the original X5?

The X 5.5 putter is very similar to the X 5 putter, but the key design difference of this model is in the shaft, which is a small slant or what Scotty Cameron describe as a I-beam jet neck.

This model has been inspired by the prototype that Justin Thomas has had in his bag on tour, including when winning the 2022 USPGA Championship.

The X sole plate is self-centering sole in this model, while the weight has been distributed to the perimeter of the putter head to increased the MOI and improve forgiveness and stability.

The face is now a dual precision milled 303 stainless steel, while the sole plate is aluminium to help with the weight distribution.

The X 5.5 putter features new milled topline sight dots and the new Pistolero Plus grip.

The setup of the putter can be adjusted by the two sole weights which have 2 x 20 grams for the 33-inch version, 2 x 15 grams for the 34-inch version and 2 x 10 grams for the 35-inch version as standard.

The original Phantom X putters were impressive and the 2024 editions have incremental gains thanks to some neat tweaks in the design.

One of the key changes is the dual milled face which now has better feel on the greens, while the weighting has been enhanced in the latest version of the 5.5 putter too.
