TaylorMade Stealth UDI Review

TaylorMade Stealth UDI

The TaylorMade Stealth UDI is a new addition for 2022 and is the latest generation of the Ultimate Driving Iron. How does it differ vs the P790 UDI?

The UDI was a big hit when first released in the SIM and P790 series as an alternative to woods and rescues, and the latest version is now available as part of the Stealth series.

The Stealths have been incredibly popular since a new driver, woods, rescues and irons were launched in 2022 and the UDI adds another dimension to TaylorMade’s comprehensive offering.

What TaylorMade says about the Stealth UDI

“Whether it’s a tight tee shot or reaching a par 5 in two, you need to be able to confidently pull a club and know it’s going to fly like you envision.

“Introducing the all-new Stealth UDI, powered by SpeedFoam Air for a penetrating ball flight, optimal distance, and precision playability. Taking flight has never been easier.

“The ultimate blend of control and versatility, Stealth UDI is a powerful option from the tee or the turf. Delivering a low launch with mid-to-low spin in a forgiving head design, it’s built for forgiving long iron shots and stingers alike.

“Stealth UDI offers a traditional address view with Tour-inspired shaping, a narrower sole width (compared to DHY) and minimal offset. It’s built to meet the eye of better ball strikers, but offers an enhanced level of forgiveness compared to standard long irons.”

TaylorMade Stealth UDI Design & Features

The Stealth UDI carries through the new look of the Stealth irons into the new generation of the Ultimate Driving Iron.

TaylorMade have taken the popular P790 UDI and made some subtle tweaks, significantly moving the CG to create a penetrating ball flight that is ideal for unleashing stingers and adding distance from the tee or fairway.

The clubhead has a forged hollow body construction and features an ultra-thin forged 4140 steel face with a larger sweet spot than in its predecessor.

The SpeedFoam Air has been re-engineered and made 69% less dense than that used in the P790 UDI, with the weight savings resulting in a better launch angle and a faster face for maximum distance.

TaylorMade’s Inverted Cone Technology ensures that face is flexible with an excellent amount of forgiveness as well as playability for shot shaping.

Like the lower irons in the Stealth range, the UDI features the Thru-Slot Speed Pocket to create forgiveness on off-centre strikes and maintain distance.

Verdict: Is the TaylorMade Stealth UDI any good?

The UDI has proven a popular option since being launched in the P790 irons and the Stealth model is an improvement again.

Clever tweaks in design have enlarged the sweet spot, created a lighter club head for more speed and longer distance whether used off the tee, fairway or out of the rough.

If you find yourself with a gap in your bag, struggle for consistency with woods or hybrids and want an option to fire stingers down the fairway, the UDI should come under serious consideration.
