Fleetwood trailed Rory McIlroy by one-shot heading down the last at Dubai Creek Resort, but his closing birdie coupled with a bogey for his playing partnered ensured a dramatic finish.

Fleetwood finished on 19-under par in the inaugural Dubai Invitational, one clear of both McIlroy and Thriston Lawrence, to pick up his seventh DP World Tour title.

The first of Fleetwood’s DP World Tour wins came in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles in 2013.

He won twice in 2017 in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and Open de France before defending his title in the former of the two in 2018.

Another title followed in the Nedbank Golf Challenge in 2019 before a three-year wait for another victory when successfully defending the crown on the event’s return to the calendar in 2022.
