Ping G730 Irons Review (LONGEST Ever Iron, New For 2024)

Ping G730 Irons Review

Ping G730 irons are new for 2024 and the longest iron ever produced by the brand. What changes have been made vs G710 irons?

The G730 model completes a busy period of launches that has seen Ping introduced the Blueprint S & T irons, Ping i530 irons, Ping S159 wedges and the new G430 Max 10K driver.

The G730 irons have been designed with two major goals in mind to maximize distance and to simplify the hitting process for golfers, and they achieve that thanks to strong lofts and an improved cavity-back design.

We tried out the new G730s to see if they do offer more distance, how forgiving they are and discovered how the design tweaks have improved performance.

Ping G730 Irons Specs & Design

Ping G730 offers a blend of distance – they come with the promise of being the longest iron yet – and forgiveness in the most complete package.

The latest model in the G series replaces the G710s and have been crafted using hyper 17-4 stainless steel, which has been heat-treated to thin out the face and optimize its structure.

The switch in the design has helped enhance the face’s flexing capabilities and has also aided in lowering the center of gravity (CG) for more forgiveness too.

As a result, the G730 irons have a higher launch angle and deliver more ball speed, carry and added distance from tee to green.

The irons feature a forgiving cavity-back design, which is complemented by the standard Ping PurFlex cavity badge to improve feel and producing a more resonant sound upon ball strike.

The design incorporates multiple flex zones within the badge to allow for greater face flex to help unleash more ball speed through impact.

The lofts have been strengthened in the new release to help maximize distance, and the incorporation of tungsten toe screw and shaft tip weights provide swingweight fine-tuning options

The G730 irons are available in 5-iron (21 degrees) to pitching wedge (40 degrees). There is also a utility wedge (45 degrees), gap wedge (50 degrees) and sand wedge (56 degrees).

Ping G730 Irons Review: Are they any good?

Ping have come up with their most impressive G series model yet with the G730 adding around five yards to your game through the irons set.

The stronger lofts are key to this gain in distance from long irons to wedges, but the refined clubhead design and face flex also contribute significantly.

It’s hard to compare a G730 7-iron for an existing 7-iron in your bag given the lofts have been made so strong, but ultimately we’re all after added distance so does it really matter?

The G730s aren’t just long – they are both accurate and forgiving too. We were very impressed with the forgiveness on off-center strikes, while the playability is hard to match in any previous version.

What Ping says about the new G730 irons:

“Maximizing distance and making it easy to hit were the primary objectives in the G730, our longest and most forgiving iron to date.

“Typical distance gains of approximately five yards are generated from the flexing, hyper 17-4 stainless steel face.

“It’s not just distance but distance with max height and increased forgiveness for shots that hit and hold the green.

Ping G730 Irons

“By employing hyper 17-4 stainless steel through heat treating, we thinned the face and optimized its overall structure to increase flexing and help lower the CG, delivering higher-launching shots with ball-speed gains and approximately five more yards of distance.

“The cavity-back design is supplemented with the proven PurFlex cavity badge that enhances feel and produces a more powerful sound. Multiple flex zones allow for more free bending to increase ball speed across the face for longer results.

“Custom-engineered lofts help increase distance with an eye toward optimizing gaps. The option of power and retro spec lofts allows fitters to further optimize performance.

“The bigger head, more offset and wider sole in the investment-cast design increase the MOI in both axes, elevating forgiveness for improved stability and accuracy in this premium game-improvement design.”
