Ping i230 Irons Review (NEW for 2023)

Ping i230 Irons

Ping i230 irons have been unveiled with the new players’ model set to make a big impression in 2023.

The new i230s replace the i210 irons as the premier model from Ping, and will join the G430 irons as newcomers from late 2022.

The i230 irons feature a smaller club head than the i210s, have a lower centre of gravity and have improved forgiveness in this more complete set.

What Ping say about the i230 Irons:

“Hit your yardages precisely with this Tour-proven, players-style iron that delivers consistent, predictable distance control and tight dispersion.

“An activated elastomer insert creates discretionary weight to lower the CG for more distance while enhancing feel and sound in conjunction with a multi-material badge.

“The sole design is similar to the tour-proven i210, with a more rounded lead edge and ample bounce to promote smooth turf interaction for clean, solid ball striking.

“For consistent clubface delivery and greater accuracy in the long irons, the 3-5 irons are slightly more compact than i210, while the mid and short irons are similar blade lengths, creating a tour-preferred look across the set.”

Ping i230 Irons Specs & Design

The Ping i230 irons are the latest generation of the manufacturer’s players model and replace the i210 as the tour standard performer.

Ping have made the clubhead in the new i230s more compact that their predecessor with a smaller length from heel to toe in the 3-5 irons. That means the blade lengths are all similar across the set, a notable change from the i210 irons.

Changes have also been made to the sole design with the leading edge more rounded than in previous versions to alter the bounce and improve turf interaction and ball striking as a result.

Ping have made weight savings by using an Activated Elastomer in the club head, allowing the CG to be moved lower and the MOI to be increased for more forgiveness.

The elastomer helps produce a more consistent sound and feel from the i230 irons, and the energy transfer generates a higher, stronger ball flight and better gapping across the set.

The irons feature precision-milled MicroMax for optimal spin levels and better control, while the Hydropearl 2.0 chrome finish gives off low launch angles with high spin in your short game.

The irons are available in 3-iron (19 degrees) to utility wedge (50 degrees).

Verdict: Are Ping i230 irons any good?

The i230 are a game changer from Ping with improvements made on the already well regarded i210 irons.

Ping i230 Irons

The key in the new model is the more uniform club head size with the irons almost the same size from 3-iron to 9-iron. The gapping has also been improved across the range too.

You will notice the slight tweak in bounce gives a more better ball strike compared to the i210s and the consistency that the i230s offer is what we loved the most.
