The American was claiming his first victory as a professional and it has extra significance as it guarantees him a PGA Tour card for 2024/25.
Thornberry finished nine-under par in the Korn Ferry Championship, one shot clear of Brian Campbell, Alistair Docherty and Doc Redman at French Lick Resort.
As an amateur, Thornberry represented the United States in the Walker Cup in 2017 and Arnold Palmer Cup in 2018 and was on the winning side on both occasions.
The University of Mississippi graduate won the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship individual title in 2017 and made his PGA Tour debut the same year.
Thornberry reached the world number one amateur status and turned professional in 2018, but had failed to match the exploits of contemporaries Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa and Will Zalatoris.
