The new Callaway Epic Speed driver has been seen for the first time after it was added to the conforming list.
Callaway released a teaser of the new drivers with the Epic Speed joined by the Epic Max and Epic Max LS. All three are expected to be launched in the first half of 2021.
The revelation from Callaway came on the same day the leading manufacturer announced world number two Jon Rahm is joining from TaylorMade having signed a multi-year equipment deal.
It has been two years since the Epic Flash was released, and the Epic Speed is one of the replacements.
Instagram user AllGolfEquipment revealed the first look at the Epic Speed driver after they was added to the R&A conforming list of drivers ahead of the new PGA Tour season.
Callaway Epic Speed Driver Design
The latest model of the Epic range is all about Speed with some notable design difference from the other two newcomers – the Max and Max LS drivers.
In the Speed, Callaway have stripped out the sliding weight and replaced it with a single weight at the rear. That is likely to create a lighter driver, increased MOI and more clubhead speed.
The images released on social media show two versions of the fixed weight, one at the rear and one towards the front – giving two set up options.
As detailed on the sole, the Epic Speed features the now standard Artificial Intelligence Speed Frame and Jailbreak Technology to promote the ball speeds that the Epic range has become renowned for.
The key design feature appears to be a change to the the Jailbreak bars, with four connection points instead of the two that was in the Epic Flash driver.
Also on the conforming list but with little information, the Speed DS and Speed LS also look set to join the Speed. Images suggest both will have only two connection points on the Jailbreak Technology.
The DS is expected to be the draw bias model, while the LS is expected to be a Low Spin model.
