Callaway Epic Max Drivers

Callaway Epic Max drivers were launched in 2021 as the successor to the Epic Flash. How does the latest model rate?

It has been two years since the Epic Flash was released, and it is has been replaced by the Epic Max as well as the Epic Speed, which was also launched in 2021.

Callaway released a teaser of the new drivers on same day that they also announced world number two Jon Rahm has signed a multi-year agreement with the brand.

What Callaway says about the Epic Max drivers

“Epic ball speeds start with our new A.I.-designed Jailbreak Speed Frame. Previous Jailbreak architectures stiffened the body in the vertical direction.

“By applying Artificial Intelligence, this structure improves stability in horizontal and torsional direction for increased ball speeds across the face.

“A.I.-designed Flash Face to optimize the Jailbreak Speed Frame, promoting fast speeds across a more expansive area. Each face in Epic MAX is uniquely enhanced, and the super strength titanium promotes maximum speed, forgiveness, and spin robustness.

“Epic MAX creates exceptionally high forgiveness, starting with a lighter, stronger Triaxial Carbon material that saves over 19 grams of weight vs. titanium. Then we redistribute that weight to promote high launch and more forgiveness.

“This driver delivers an exceptional combination of a deep CG, draw bias and higher MOI for tighter downrange dispersion and straighter drives.”

Callaway Epic Max Driver

The Epic Max is more evolutionary than revolutionary when compared to the Epic Flash.

It features Callaway’s Jailbreak Technology with the bars behind the face strengthened in the Max with four connection points.

The Artificial Intelligence Speed Frame is present to promote the ball speeds that the Jailbreak Technology has become renowned for.

There is a sliding weight for adjustability, much like there was in the Epic Flash, but the sole does feature more of the look of the Callaway Mavrik driver and the cyclone shaping.

The Max driver features an additional design feature from previous models with a carbon element on the toe of the sole. It is likely this is a weight saving.

Callaway Epic Max LS Driver Review

Callaway Epic Max LS Driver

The Max LS is the second option in the range, and gets its name from the expected Low Spin promise of this model.

There are subtle differences between the Max and the Max LS from a design perspective rather than anything major.

The Max LS has a slightly smaller clubhead and the sliding weight is also smaller than the one used in the Max model.
